Grand final day, if you're not in front of a TV
Grand final day is the first Sunday in October, the middle of the long weekend in New South Wales and the ACT - a barbecue, someone's birthday, a drive home. The score is easy to lose track of and impossible to ignore.
- On your lock screen. For an eligible followed match with the feature enabled, a Live Activity on iPhone or Live Update on Android 16 and later can update silently from kick-off to full time.
- On your wrist or your dashboard. On iPhone the same live score carries into the Apple Watch Smart Stack and CarPlay, which is about as discreet as it gets.
- Afterwards. The score worm, the scoring timeline, player stats and lineups for the game you missed - and a shareable result card for the group chat.
Watching it later? Turn on Avoid Spoilers for both teams before kick-off and Six Again keeps the result out of sight until you've seen it - including on the lock screen, which is the one that usually catches people out.
How the two teams get there
The grand final is week 4 of the finals. The two preliminary final winners meet, having taken different roads to get there: a top-four side that won its qualifying final needs two wins, while a side from fifth to eighth needs three straight sudden-death weeks before it even gets here. That gap is why the last few rounds of the regular season are played like finals themselves.
The full path is set out on the NRL finals page - qualifying finals, elimination finals, semi-finals and preliminary finals, and which of them are sudden death.
