How to get live NRL scores on your lock screen
The fastest way to follow a footy game you can't watch isn't refreshing a website, reloading an app, or waiting for notifications - it's having the live score sit on your lock screen, updating by itself. Here's how that works on iPhone and Android, and how to set it up in about two minutes.
What lock-screen live scores actually are
Both major phone platforms now have a purpose-built system for exactly this:
- iPhone - Live Activities. A compact, glanceable card that sits at the bottom of the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island. It updates in real time without you unlocking the phone, and it disappears when the event ends.
- Android - Live Updates. A special class of ongoing notification that's pinned to the lock screen and shown as a chip in the status bar, designed for live, progressing events like a footy match.
The key difference from ordinary notifications: nothing buzzes, nothing piles up, and you never have to open an app. The score is simply there every time you glance at your phone, updating the moment it changes.
Setting it up with Six Again
Six Again is built around this one idea: live NRL and State of Origin scores on your lock screen, with as little setup as possible.
- Install Six Again from the App Store or Google Play (Android 16 or later).
- Follow your teams. Pick your favourites once and you're done - no sign-up required.
- Lock your phone. Before each of their matches, Six Again starts the Live Activity or Live Update automatically. The score follows you from kick-off to full time.
Not fussed about a particular team? You can follow any individual match instead - upcoming or already in progress - and only that game will appear on your lock screen.
Why auto-start matters
Plenty of apps can show a score if you remember to open them. The point of lock-screen scores is that you don't have to remember. Because Six Again starts the Live Activity before kick-off for the teams you follow, Friday night footy is on your lock screen before you've even thought about it - every round, all season.
On iPhone the score also lives in the Dynamic Island while you're using other apps, and carries through to Apple Watch and CarPlay. On Android it sits in the status bar as a chip you can expand anywhere.
What it costs
Six Again is free to download, and lock-screen live scores are free for your first 3 matches. After that they need Six Again Premium at $9.99/year (AUD/NZD; other currencies vary). Live scores inside the app, the live ladder and the season draw stay free.
No gambling. There are no betting odds or bookmaker sponsorships anywhere in Six Again - on your lock screen or in the app. Read why that matters.
