Live NRL scores on Android with Live Updates
Lock-screen live scores used to be an iPhone thing. Android 16 changed that with Live Updates - a purpose-built way for apps to pin a live, progressing event to your lock screen and status bar. Footy is exactly what it was made for.
What Live Updates are
A Live Update is a special class of Android notification for things that are happening right now and changing as they go - a delivery on its way, a ride arriving, or a footy match. Compared with ordinary notifications, a Live Update:
- Stays pinned near the top of your lock screen and notification shade for the life of the event, instead of sinking under everything else.
- Shows as a status-bar chip - a compact live element you can see (and expand) from any screen, not just the lock screen.
- Updates in place, silently. The score changes; your phone doesn't buzz forty times a game.
You'll need a phone running Android 16 or later. Live Updates arrive as part of the OS, so availability depends on your phone maker's rollout schedule rather than any app setting.
Setting up NRL scores as Live Updates
Six Again for Android uses Live Updates for every NRL and State of Origin match, with the same auto-start behaviour as the iPhone version:
- Install Six Again from Google Play (Android 16+).
- Follow your teams once - no account needed.
- Before kick-off, the Live Update starts automatically and stays on your lock screen and status bar until full time. Or follow any individual match with a tap.
Everything else comes along too
The Android app is the full Six Again experience, not a port: the live ladder with the No Byes view, the complete season draw, score worm, scoring timeline, player stats, lineups and Avoid Spoilers mode. And like everywhere else in Six Again, there are no betting odds and no gambling ads.
Lock-screen live scores are free for your first 3 matches, then need Six Again Premium at $9.99/year (AUD/NZD; other currencies vary). In-app live scores, the ladder and the draw stay free.
